Mohawk House

The work we did at the Mohawk House in Sparta, New Jersey, was just the first phase of working with restaurateur Steve Scro on his family of restaurants. In addition to the Mohawk House, Steve also owns The Modern Farmer, where we recently installed a reclaimed barn wood wall.

At Mohawk House, we put our Harvest mixed hardwood up on the ceiling in a random mix of widths. The mixed hardwood boards included a combination of 3-, 4- and 5-inch planks to give the design a truly unique feel. The patina on the reclaimed wood was achieved from the original saw marks and helps to tie together the rustic look of the ceiling with the exposed brick wall and other industrial elements in the space.

In addition to the ceiling, we also created a set of double-sided 4-foot by 10-foot barn doors, which were crafted from our silver/gray barn siding and framed out with some pieces of rough sawn oak to finish them off. The barn doors are set on heavy-duty casters so that they can be pulled out to form a partition that separates the restaurant into two distinct spaces for a private dining experience.
