Watchung, NJ

The Watchung House is a beautiful example of a renovation that perfectly blends old and new. The owners worked with us before, were thrilled with the results, and returned when they decided to triple the square footage of their home.

We began by reworking some pieces we had previously fabricated. In the master bedroom, a console table and floating mantels that were used as shelves were repurposed to better fit the new space. We also sanded down, refinished, and re-installed the original mantel to fit their new fireplace. For this project, Real Antique Wood handled the installation of all products, ensuring everything was perfect.

The most notable projects took place downstairs. In the kitchen, we installed Douglas fir beam wraps, stained with a custom color mixed specifically for these clients. The 22-foot-long kitchen beams were particularly impressive. We made sure to match the range hood portion to the rest of the mantels in the home with the same custom stain color.

The family room and dining room were also adorned with the same box beams, once again stained to perfectly match the rest of the home. The goal was to create a rustic feel that wasn’t ‘too over-the-top’, and the choice of Douglas fir helped us achieve that aesthetic. A hand-hewn fireplace mantel with the custom stain color was also added to complete the room.

Finally, we used a water-based finish on all the beams to ensure easy cleaning and no splintering, a must for a home with a little one.
